The only thing Luciano did was smirk at you. “Don't worry, bella,” he cooed and pinched your cheeks until they turned red.  Like a grandma would do to her four year old grandson with chubby cheeks. “I'll be an amazing husband for you.”

“Luciano,” the woman snapped, which immediately caused him to retract his hand and back away from you, a scowl on his face. “That is no way for a man to behave,” She then directed her glare at you as if you were the sole cause for her anger. “Come here, girl.” She demanded and turned away.

Your legs began to tremble in apprehension. She seemed like a massive bitch- but classy all the same that could totally beat your ass while drinking tea at the same time. You didn't want to be on her bad side so you just decided to act like a suck up until it turns out to be a bad idea. “Yes ma’am!” You squeaked.

“Mamá,” the blonde Italian piped up and pointed to your excited parents. “What about the guests?”

Mamá stopped walking and gave her son a tight-lipped smile. “Take them to the dining room, I'll be there shortly.” And once again began taking long strides towards her destination, her stilettos making the only noise in the hallway.

You followed after her and cast Luciano a last look, but he only had his eyes at Mamá with his fists clenched.

“Soooo…. You're Mamá?” Small talk, good job (name)!

   “Stop talking."

   Okay, never mind.

She opened the doors to an unknown room for you and stepped in. “Watch out for the lion skin,” She sniffed haughtily. “Consuela- my maid, just cleaned it.” She had put extra emphasis on ‘my maid’ on purpose because she knew your family never have stepped foot on such luxury, so she was rubbing it in.

“Sit down,” She motioned to the sofas and began walking in circles once you found a seat. She was a tall woman and the way she loomed over you with those piercing red eyes only made it to intimidate you further.

“You're GPA score is 4.646, an enormous feat compared to the other idiots in your school. But my son's is 5.654- better than yours.” She had stopped walking and was now staring you down. You whole body began to tremble.

   “H-how do you know?”

She seemed to smirk at that. “I have to know all that there is to know about my future daughter-in-law.”

Your eyes grew wide, the news still hadn't sunken in that you were going to get married.

“But in my eyes,” Mamá continued. “You're just average.” You winced at that and began to gnaw on your bottom lip. Your feelings were seriously getting hurt today. “You're not ugly but you're not beautiful-”

“You're seriously hurting my feeling ma’am.” Forget sucking up, you were going to defend your honor even if it ended up with Mamá hating you.

“-You're just pretty,” She continued as if you never interrupted her, but there was a slight glare on her face. “I don't see the appeal that my son sees in you. Did you cast a spell on him or something?”

“Aw yeah,” you replied sarcastically. “I bewitched him with my mad flirting skills. Your son never stood a chance against me.”

There was a long pause where time seem to stretch and when you were just beginning to regret ever talking back to Mamá, she cracked a smile.

“Tell me something, piccola.” Mamá purred in amusement and inspected her long nails. “Are you always so full of shit?”

“On rare occasions ma’am, only when the need rises up.”

   “As expected.”

Mamá smiled humorlessly and  motioned for you to get up. “Let's go back, you're parents are probably wondering why we're taking so long.”

The walk to the dining room was quiet and full of tension in your case. Mamá looked calm in your eyes but for all you knew she could be planning your death because you were pretty sure she now hated you.

Once you entered the dining room, you gawked at all the food on the table. “(name)!” Your mother cried happily, it immediately caught Luciano’s attention as he snapped his head up from his phone and stared at you. Goosebumps ran down your arms at the look Luciano was giving you, so you just avoided his gaze. “Come in, come in, my sweet daughter and enjoy all the splendid food are hosts so kindly gave us!”

Luciano rolled his eyes at your mom's attempt to flatter them and looked back at his phone. His interest in you disappearing.

That was disappointing. For a guy saying he'll be a great husband, ignoring his future wife wasn't the best way to start.

Mamá frowned at Luciano and gripped your arm tightly, her anger was pretty evident and you were sure she was going to leave marks since her long nails were digging into your skin.  “Everyone, be quiet!” That immediately caught everyone's full attention as your parents conversation muted. Mamá smiled pleasantly once everything was silent and cleared her throat. “I've decided.”

Once she uttered those words, Luciano groaned and glared at his mom. You were pretty confused since you thought Luciano wanted to marry you but now he looked miserable at the thought of that.

Mamá flashed her son a condescending smirk that only seemed to rile him up even more. As for your parents, they were eagerly waiting for her decision and looking up at her with wide eyes.

   “I give my consent.”

“Seriously Mamá?” Luciano growled and stood up. “You always do this, I bring a girl over and you scare her off. Seriously you-”

“I said, I give my consent.” She repeated.

Luciano’s eyes widened. “Wait, you're for real?” Once Mamá nodded, Luciano couldn't help but grin. He directed his gaze at you and reached out. “Come my fidanzata, I don't know what you did to make Mamá like you, but I'm proud.”

“U-um I’m still really confused on what's going on. Can someone please tell me, I'm feeling left out.”

“Shh,” Luciano covered your lips with his finger and pulled you to his chest. He held you close to him and rested his chin on your head. “It doesn't matter right now.” He inhaled deeply against your hair and sighed. He obviously didn't care that your parents were watching him like hawks while his mom was smirking at him.

You squirmed against him, feeling very awkward and self-conscious by all the stares. “C-can you let go….please?”

   “No, I like holding you.”

“Well then!” The blonde boy clapped his hands excitedly and pulled you away from Luciano who gave him a scathing glare and into his arms. “Now that you two are going to get married and we're you going to be family, you can call me big brother Flavio!” He squealed and twirled you around.

This was too much. With the unexpected declaration of marriage, the intimidation of Mamá, and now Flavio spinning you; you were getting nauseous and finding it difficult to breathe.

Fortunately your mom could read the signs when you were getting very nervous. “This is splendid news!” She plucked you away from Flavio’s grasp and held your waist securely. “We will discuss the marriage plans another day but we must head off!

Mamá nodded. “Of course, Consuela will lead you out.” Said maid seemed to manifest out of nowhere and motion you to follow her. “Come, come,” She said in a very deep accent. “Must leave.” She ushered you out of the Vargas residence and closed the door quietly.

“Well,” Your dad grinned down at you. “That went better than expected.”

When you made it home, you immediately bombarded your parents with questions. “Why am I getting married, how do you know Mamá, when did you guys agree to this, and WHY DID YOU AGREE TO THIS?!”

“Honey,” Your mother tried to smooth out your hair but you swatted her hands away. “We did this for you,”

“Actually,” Your father raised his hand awkwardly. “We also did it for the money.”

“Anthony!” Your mother gasped and smacked his shoulder. “You weren't supposed to tell her that!”

“I'm sorry!” He raised his hands defensively. “But my baby girl just looked so confused and lost; like a little lamb lost in the woods with a wolf staring her down.”

“That is not helping!” She hit his chest with her purse and then looked at you with pursed lips. You only glared at her.

“I'm waiting,” you tapped your foot impatiently and crossed your arms. They were not going to get away from this without an explanation.

Your mother groaned. “Do we really have to?” You nodded. “Ugh, you spoil sport.” She grumbled and grabbed your wrist, smoothing it down before adding pressure on it.

“H-hey, what are you doing?” you weakly tried to take your hand back but she held on tight and added more pressure.

“Just go to sleep, darling,” Your mother whispered. “We'll talk in the morning.” Those were the last things you heard before you passed out.

She quickly grabbed you before you could fall and set a hand on your forehead to smooth your hair away from you face. “Damn,” Your father whistled in surprise. “I never knew you could do that.”

“And I can do so much more.” She gave your father an impish smile and cradled you to her chest. “My little angel is getting married!”

“I know!” Your father cheered and walked to the kitchen. “We need to celebrate!” He grabbed two beers and came back, giving one to your mother before opening his. “To rich people!”

“To rich people!” Your mother cheered and took a big gulp of her Bud Light, almost dropping you in the process.

“We need to take her to bed,” Your father huffed and took you in his arms and walked to your room, stumbling a bit since the alcohol had kicked in already. “Goodnight, sweetie.” He kissed your cheek and closed your bedroom door.

“What did I tell you?” Your mother said arrogantly once he came back. She took his hands in hers and sat on the couch.

   “That giving birth to a-”

“That giving birth to a daughter was a blessing. “ she interrupted and puffed out her chest. “I was right and you were wrong. So kiss my ass you dumb fuck.”

“Darlene, we still have to make sure they get married and NEVER get a divorce.”

“Aw you're right,” She smacked her forehead and closed her eyes.  Why hadn't she thought about that? God she was so stupid- wait God! “Oh, Oh!” She stood up in a flash and began to jump around the living room. “Are the Vargas family religious?”

He scratched his head. “I think so. But I don't see how this is-”

And once again Darlene interrupted her husband. “Some people who are hella religious don't believe in divorce!.... Or at least in remarriage.”

“Yes!” Anthony raised his fist in the air. “And if Mamá is super religious then our children won't get a divorce.” They both gave each other a high five and Anthony looked at his wife lovingly. “God I'm so lucky to have you in my life.”

Your mother giggled. “Oh stop it you dog,” She swatted his wandering hand away and cuddled up to his chest. “If this works then we'll be living like royalty.”

“Just the way you and (name) were always supposed to be treated.”

She took another sip of her drink and looked up at her husband. “You seriously want to get laid so bad that you would say something so cheesy to me?”

Your father winked at her. “Anything for you, darling.”
